Since beginning his legal career as a public defender, Justice Bronson James has firmly believed every Oregonian who goes before the court deserves a fair and just trial. With experience as a trial judge, then on the Oregon Court of Appeals, his even-handed approach in the courtroom led to his appointment to the Oregon Supreme Court in 2022.

Justice James worked on a wide range of cases during his career as an attorney, including criminal defense, federal immigration representation, and civil rights litigation. This experience helped him develop an appreciation for diversity of opinions and perspectives to ensure equity and justice in the courtroom – a view that has stayed with him throughout his judicial career.
